It's based on how many multiple-choice and this-or-that answers you both picked the same option for. Slider and short-answer questions are shown side by side for fun but don't count toward the score.
Once you submit an answer it's locked in for that attempt, so you can't go back and change it after seeing your partner's side. You can always start a fresh quiz together any time.
